Ways To Give
The mission of the
Arthritis Foundation
is to improve lives through the leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
The Sentara sponsorship dollars for the Arthritis Foundation went to expanding the Life Improvement Series in Hampton Roads.
These programs change lives because The Arthritis Foundation works with real people – people who came to us wanting to take back control over their lives and reduce their pain from arthritis. A recent study published in
Arthritis Care and Research
said regular exercise – specifically the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program – is an effective course in significantly improving and managing arthritis pain. The Arthritis Foundation programs also provide the preventive care and interventions that may reduce your need for more costly care in the future—such as the 2008 Arthritis Walk sponsored by the Sentara Health Foundation.
People of all sizes benefit from the Arthritis Walk, such as Emma Grace Gafa, the 2008 Arthritis Walk Hero. Emma is now three years old and lives in Yorktown. She is spunky, smart, and full of personality! She enjoys watching Dora the Explorer, helping cook, playing hide-and-seek, and driving around in her Jeep. Her favorite color is purple, and she loves all animals.
Emma was diagnosed with
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
when she was nine months old. She has made a lot of progress since her diagnosis, thanks to her family, her doctors, and the information and support of the Arthritis Foundation.
