Volunteers are an integral part of Sentara Leigh Hospital. From nursing units, to the information desk, to the gift shop, volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year to support the mission of the hospital “to improve health everyday."
Sentara Leigh Hospital utilizes both adult and junior volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are available in clinical and non-clinical settings at both onsite and offsite hospital locations.
All volunteers are offered flexible schedules to accommodate their lifestyles. Volunteers adhere to a similar dress code as Sentara employees. In exchange for their service to Sentara, volunteers enjoy many benefits for their time and talents.
Adult Volunteer Program
The adult volunteer program is the foundation of Sentara Leigh Hospital Volunteer Services. Adult volunteers of all ages are an integral part of the hospital environment.. From nursing units, to the information desk, to the gift shop, adult volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year to support the mission of the hospital “to improve health everyday."
College Volunteer Program
Sentara Leigh Hospital has developed a program specifically for college volunteers called the Experiential Learning Program (ELP). The program kicked-off for the 2013 summer college semester. The program is directed to college students enrolled in a four-year college or university who are looking to have a rich and meaningful volunteering experience.
The Healing Notes program was developed as a way to provide artists of all walks of life, from the community, hospital staff, area schools and colleges, professional musicians, and collaborating musicians; anyone who has an interest in share their love of music with others. Musical performances are free of charge to our customers and we do not pay performers for their service.
Junior Volunteer Program
Our junior volunteer program is available year-round as well as in the summer. Junior volunteers must be at least 14 years old on or before June 1st and complete the 8th grade by the end of June, with a “C” or better average.
