Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter Local chapter of the national association. Includes information for patients, families and potential volunteers, listing services, including support groups, Helpline and educational programs.
Arthritis Foundation A source of help for nearly 40 million Americans who have arthritis, the Foundation's Web site provides a resource room for patients and health professionals, news, research and advocacy resources and information to contact local chapters.

Hearing Impairment National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders

About 314 in 1,000 people over age 65 have hearing loss. Forty to 50 percent of people 75 years and older have hearing loss. The NIDCD offers info sheets, online publications and a directory of nearly 100 hearing-related organizations with resources for adults, children, parents and teachers.

National Institute on Aging One of the National Institutes of Health, this site offers news and events, health information and research programs of interest to the older population. Links to publications, clinical trials, and health and aging organizations.
Osteoporosis Foundation, National A leading resource for people seeking up-to-date medically sound information on osteoporosis. Includes disease information, risk factors, bone health, prevention and treatment information. Sections for health professionals, support groups and advocacy are also featured.
Peninsula Agency on Aging The Peninsula Agency on Aging supports the independence and quality of life of Peninsula residents primarily over 60. Details about programs including transportation, insurance assistance, long-term care information, meals and case management.
Senior Services on Southeastern Virginia The Southside area agency that serves as a resource for older Virginians. Its Web site contains an overview and contact numbers for services, transportation, legislative links, insurance counseling programs and volunteer opportunities for seniors.
Social Security The official, comprehensive government site. Information on Social Security records, retirement, Medicare, disability and SSI, widow/widower/survivor benefits and changes in family situations. 
Virginia Department for the Aging This Web site provides dozens of links to subjects, such as area agencies on aging, caregiving, nursing homes, heating/cooling assistance, insurance, identity theft and even grandparenting. Assistance offered in finding various services.
