Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital (SVBGH) offers comprehensive cardiac care from prevention and early detection of heart disease to treatment and rehabilitation. The cardiac team consists of nationally recognized cardiologists and cardiac surgeons specialized in heart disease. SVBGH is one of only two open heart surgery centers in South Hampton Roads.
The Sentara Heart Center opened in Fall 2005. SVBGH success rates surpass national standards and for heart surgery, their mortality rates are far better than national standards, as reported by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. For interventional procedures, like angioplasty and stents, our cardiologists have a 97% success rate compared with the national standard of 90% from the American College of Cardiology.
