From delivering babies to treating the health concerns of all women, women's health issues receive plenty of attention at Sentara Obici Hospital. We believe that the staff of our 22-bed Women's Center provides women and their families with care that is second to none.

Family-Centered Approach

Our spacious, private rooms accommodate our patients and family support system in anticipation of the birth of your child. Our family-centered approach allows your family to be as involved in the birth as much as possible. A visitation policy is in place to promote a comfortable, safe environment.

Special Care for Infants with Special Needs

Sentara Obici Hospital's special affiliation with the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters insures that newborns that experience difficulty receive the specialized care they require. As a member of this neonatal network, Sentara Obici can immediately transfer critical infants to a neonatal intensive care nursery. Regular training sessions with CHKD nurses and doctors provide our nurses with the most up-to-date skills in caring for sick infants. Our newborn nursery has 24-hour on-site coverage by board-certified pediatricians.

Health Education

A variety of childbirth preparation classes for the whole family are offered, and private consultation with the Lactation Consultant can address breastfeeding concerns needing more individualized attention.

For Women of All Ages

Women's health care goes beyond obstetrics. Sentara Obici's Women's Center cares for women who need inpatient care for a variety of gynecological disorders and other medical problems.

OB Navigators

An OB Navigator is a specially trained nurse who is available to you as a guide and advocate during your journey through pregnancy as well as labor and delivery.

She is there to support you with timely health information to help you make informed decisions about your personal health.  There are several ways she can assist you:

  • Help you communicate with health professionals (doctors, nurses, and other health workers) and community-based support services
  • Coordinate services to support you and your baby
  • Provide emotional support on your journey to parenthood
  • Offer educational resources and answer your questions
