Sentara Princess Anne Hospital offers palliative care to patients and families of those patients facing a serious illness affecting their quality of life. This unique care helps patients to better understand the information they need to make important decisions and participate in planning their own medical care.

Our palliative care team consists of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and chaplains with clinical expertise in diseases, treatment options and symptom management. Palliative care can benefit patients, families and caregivers by focusing on maintaining the best quality of life with an environment of safety and comfort.

Patients who can benefit from palliative care include those with life-threatening illness and those coping with advanced stages of chronic or recurring illnesses such as:
 Alzheimer’s disease and forms of dementia
 Cancer
 Diabetes, liver or kidney failure
 Heart and lung disease
 AIDS
 Parkinson’s disease, stroke, ALS

How to Request a Consultation
A referral from a patient’s physician is necessary before a consultation. Please speak with your physician or nurse, or contact our hospital palliative care coordinator for a referral.
