The Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center at Sentara Port Warwick provides the latest clinical advances in breast health care to the Hampton Roads community. The breast center is among the nation's first to gain full, three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center is one of two Sentara breast centers to earn the elite designation—both are the first in Hampton Roads to be honored.
The breast center is also among an elite group of only three other breast imaging centers in Hampton Roads designated as an American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. After rigorous evaluation of staff, equipment, physician credentials, technique and image quality, the center is now fully accredited in the three major areas of breast imaging and cancer detection, mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and ultrasound guided biopsy.
The breast center provides a complete range of state of the art screening, diagnostic, treatment and supportive services at the Sentara Port Warwick campus. Efforts have been made to create a relaxing environment to make breast health care as easy and comfortable as possible. The Center provides high quality, innovative and integrated care.
A team of breast specialists, including dedicated mammographers, surgeons, surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and pathologists work closely together to offer accurate and efficient management of breast care. Our team approach means that patients receive the benefit of an enormous amount of combined experience, expertise and brainpower in planning and evaluating their treatment.
For those patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer, the center provides a multidisciplinary team of subspecialized physicians reviewing breast cancer cases in a weekly conference to collaborate on the best possible treatment plan for each person. In addition, a specialized surgical oncology practice is available on site for patients who may need surgical treatment.
The center is MQSA/FDA certified.
