Construction begins on the estimated $145 million Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, a state-of-the-art, acute care hospital to be located on Sentara Princess Anne health campus at 2000 Glenn Mitchell Drive.

Plans for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital involve construction of a 5-story, approximately 330,400-square-foot facility, continuing the development of Sentara Princess Anne health campus. 

 Virginia Beach's latest hospital in more than 30 years will be future-ready including eICU® an electronic monitoring system for critical care patients and the Sentara eCare Health Network®, a dynamic and secure information system making real-time clinical data accessible to caregivers simultaneously. 

 Scheduled for its first patients in Summer 2011, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital will open with all private rooms. The hospital is currently licensed for 120 inpatient beds, including 96 medical surgical beds, 12 obstetric beds, and 12 intensive care beds.

 Features of the hospital include a family maternity center, heart catheterization laboratory, 6 operating rooms, and advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities. 

 Anticipated opening of the facility:  Summer 2011


Sentara Princess Anne Timeline

1953- Oceanfront hotel owner and philanthropist James Guzzy establishes charter for a Princess Anne Hospital.

1988- Sentara seeks state approval for a Princess Anne Hospital.

May 2002- Sentara submits only response to City RFP to build a world-class health care campus in the Princess Anne corridor.

2002- James Guzzy estate contributes $2.8 million to Sentara, the first gift toward Sentara Princess Anne health campus and a hospital for southern Virginia Beach residents.

April 27, 2005- Delayed construction begins on Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus to allow community full use of ball fields.

September 18, 2006- Emergency Department at Sentara Princess Anne opens at 7:00 a.m. First walk-in patient arrives at 8:09 a.m. Advanced Imaging Center, physician offices, and laboratory opened as well.

Fall 2006- Dozens of physician offices, a comprehensive cancer center, ambulatory surgery center, womens services, and physical therapy open to patients.

March 2008- Sentara receives state approval for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital to serve growing Princess Anne Corridor community.

May 2008- Emergency Department at Sentara Princess Anne cares for 60,000th patient.

June 12, 2008- Groundbreaking for Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, a state-of-the-art acute care hospital whose time has come.

December 2, 2008 - Bon Secours Virginia and Sentara Healthcare agree to collaborate in developing Sentara Princess Anne Hospital and hospital related services on their respective outpatient campuses in Virginia Beach.
