New Medical Campus to Open in Isle of Wight January 2010
Construction is underway to complete a new, two-story, 52,000 square foot medical office building that will become a part of a new campus called Sentara St. Luke's. Targeted to open in January 2010, the building will become the new home to services offered today less than four miles away at the Sentara site on South Church Street in Smithfield.
Campus Highlights:
Advanced Imaging
The same high-quality imaging services available at Smithfield Imaging Center today,
including mobile CT, mobile MRI, ultrasound, x-ray and digital mammography, will be
transferred and available in full at the new center at Sentara St. Luke's.
Urgent Care
Upon the move to Sentara St. Luke's, the urgent care facility currently offering after-hours
care will be redesigned and expanded.
Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapy center at Sentara St. Luke's will offer patients access to physical,
occupational and speech therapies, including hand therapy and lymphedema therapy with
specially trained and certified therapists.
Physician Practices
Sentara Medical Group and community physicians will provide quality family medicine,
internal medicine, pediatric and specialty care in new offices located within the Sentara St.
Luke's building.
A Look to the Future: Ambulatory Surgery Center
A Certificate of Public Need (COPN) application was submitted to the Virginia Department of Health in July 2009 for approval to build an Ambulatory Surgery Center at Sentara St. Luke's. A decision on the COPN application is expected in mid-2010. If approved, the outpatient surgery center would complement other campus services described above for Phase I of the campus.
As part of the application process, there will be a Public Hearing on Friday, November 6th, at 1:00 pm at the Smithfield Library. This is an opportunity for you to come and share your support for the Sentara Obici Hospital application! We encourage you to come and make your voice heard.
