The physicians at Urology of Virginia, working closely with scientists at Eastern Virginia Medical School located in Norfolk, Va., are involved in the latest clinical trials and research involving prostate, bladder, kidney cancer as well as male infertility and urinary incontinence. These results are presented to colleagues at national forums.
For the prostate cancer program at Sentara, our urology group is the only program in the Commonwealth of Virginia who has published their Quality of Life Outcomes comparing all surgical treatments for prostate cancer. In a recent review of the data on patients who had their prostates removed for cancer, there was only a 2.5% prostate cancer specific mortality (chance of dying from prostate cancer) even in a setting of biochemical recurrence 10 years post treatment. Ask your doctor if they can provide you with such data.
