Advanced Imaging at Sentara: Cardiac CT Scanner
Last January, Sentara opened new doors in heart disease diagnostics by unveiling the region’s first Cardiac CT Scanner, the GE LightSpeed VCT. The state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner is the fastest and most accurate CT scanner in Hampton Roads, allowing physicians to diagnose heart conditions in a matter of seconds.
As the leading cause of death in the U.S., coronary heart disease claims nearly 700,000 lives each year. The new Cardiac CT Scanner provides crystal clear images of the heart and its vessels, revealing any dangerous plaque that can lead to a deadly heart attack.
Previously, a look into the heart involved an invasive catheterization, and was reserved only for high-risk patients. Now, a clear image of the heart is available for patients of all risk levels. For less severe symptoms, like shortness of breath or chest pain, a diagnosis can be discovered before something life threatening occurs.
The Cardiac CT Scanner is available at the nationally recognized Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, the region’s only hospital dedicated solely to superior cardiac care.
