Sentara Princess Anne Groundbreaking Held A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 12, 2008, to officially begin construction of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, a 120-bed acute care hospital to be located on the Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus at 2000 Glenn Mitchell Drive in Virginia Beach.
The hospital represents the culmination of more than 20 years of planning and an investment of approximately $145 million in structure and equipment. With an anticipated opening as early as 2010, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital will complement outpatient services already in place by providing much needed services to southern Virginia Beach residents, such as comprehensive surgical procedures, intensive care, advanced cardiac care and a dedicated family maternity center.
Plans Progress for Sentara St. Luke'sThis summer, the Isle of Wight Historical Architectural Review Committee approved the site plan and building elevations for the medical campus at Sentara St. Luke's, a 42-acre tract of land to be developed in Isle of Wight County. Upon gaining final approval of the site plan and securing the necessary building permits, a groundbreaking is being planned for October 2008.
Phase I of the project calls for construction of a 48,000 sq. ft. medical office building to expand and relocate services currently in Smithfield, including Smithfield Medical Practice; physician specialty offices; diagnostic imaging capabilities with mobile MRI and CT; physical therapy and rehab services; and an urgent care facility.
Phase II plans include construction of a second 48,000-square-foot facility that would house an Ambulatory Surgery Center, pending a Certificate of Public Need submission to the state. Occupancy of the campus is planned for fall 2009.

Sentara Obici Hospital Breaks Ground on Patient Tower
A groundbreaking ceremony for a new patient tower, which includes the 30 beds approved by the State Health Commissioner earlier this year, was held on August 4, 2008, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
Speakers included: Sentara Obici Hospital Administrator Rosemary Check; Sentara Peninsula Region President Ken Krakaur; Mayor of Suffolk Linda Johnson; and President of Sentara Obici Hospital Medical Staff Richard Curry, MD.
Formerly Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, the facility has been meeting the health care needs of patients in the Suffolk and Western Tidewater communities for more than 50 years.
Plans for the new patient tower include two units — a Medical Surgical Step Down Unit and an Orthopedic Unit. When the patient tower is complete in 2010, it will bring Sentara Obici’s total capacity to 168 beds.
