In June 2008, after a lengthy and stringent review process, Human Resources Senior Corporate Vice President Mike Taylor and I had the privilege of accepting the
Employer of Choice® award on behalf of all Sentara Healthcare employees.
This two-year national designation is noteworthy because it applies not only to one Sentara hospital, department or division, but to our entire healthcare system as a whole.
Employer of Choice®, Inc., is a company that formally recognizes employers who develop employee relationships beyond typical human resource practices. Low employee turnover, strong employee satisfaction rates, and exceptional leadership initiatives are a few reasons why Sentara received the award.
Fewer than 30 companies in the financial, construction, technology and health care industries nationwide have earned this prestigious award.
In fact, Sentara’s score was the third highest score in the history of the award. Due to the strength of our score, Sentara received a two-year national designation, rather than the customary one-year designation.
The Employer of Choice® honor is testimony to the quality, talent and dedication of the 15,000 Sentara team members employed at more than 100 sites of care throughout Hampton Roads.
I am extremely proud of our entire Sentara team. Your strong work ethic and commitment to our mission of improving health every day is what helped rank Sentara in the top 10 percent out of 187 healthcare systems nationwide.
