Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has provided funding for an Aromatherapy program in the hospital’s ICU. The program fulfills a Planetree component, Complimentary Therapies, which endorses alternative therapies to complement clinical modalities to promote healing. Thanks to Anita Piatrowski, RN, ICU, who conducted research involving the effects of lavender on patients and became certified in aromatherapy. The Auxiliary held a
New and Gently Used Clothing Sale on November 30 and the second annual
Festival of Lights Gala fundraiser on November 7. Last year the Auxiliary and volunteers provided over 37,000 volunteer service hours to the hospital. Adult volunteers Amy Gootzait and Billy Kempton have joined the Green Team, and are a great addition to the team’s recycling efforts.
Sentara Bayside Hospital/Sentara Princess Anne Auxiliary’s Tree of Lights campaign was held during the 2007 holiday season, and raised more than $6,000 for the Sentara Hospice Care program. The Auxiliary will present a check to Sentara Hospice Program staff in February 2008. The Auxiliary’s
Grand Illumination Ceremony held on December 5, 2007 at Sentara Bayside Hospital was a great success.
Sentara CarePlex Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Valentines Day carnation and balloon sale on February 14, 2008. Look for displays at the hospital’s James River and cafeteria entrances. A
Books are Fun book sale is scheduled for March 19 and 20, 2008 at the hospital. Books will be on display in the hospital atrium. The Auxiliary hopes everyone will find a good book to read during the winter months.
Sentara Leigh Hospital/Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shops will be holding special sales in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Be sure to shower your special someone with candy, flowers or other unique gifts. The gift shops at Sentara Leigh, Sentara Norfolk General and Sentara Heart Hospitals are all in need of volunteers. Sentara Obici Hospital Auxiliary held the
Tree of Lights Ceremony on December 12, 2007. The campaign raised more than $1,500 for the Growing up at Obici Children's fund. Otha Rountree, a.k.a. "Santa" received more than 50 holiday wish lists from children in attendance. The Auxiliary contributed $3,000 toward the purchase of a new patient golf cart, dramatically increasing ease of access to the facility. The hospital gift shop manager and volunteers attended a buyer’s convention in Atlanta and purchased unique items on display now, along with Valentine and spring sale items. During 2007, volunteers donated more than 32,000 service hours to Sentara Obici Hospital.
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary had a record-breaking attendance at the November 14 annual luncheon with 180 members on hand. The Auxiliary presented the Hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit with $10,000 from the annual ACE OF HEARTS Tennis Tournament held in May 2007. Additionally, scholarships totaling $10,000 were awarded to seven applicants in 2007. The Auxiliary’s Ways and Means committee has been very successful with fund raising events in 2007. The

Love Light Tree were all extremely successful. Upcoming events include: a Phantasia $5 jewelry sale on February 12 and 13, a silent auction and fashion show on April 16, and the Ace of Hearts tennis tournament on May 2-4, 2008.
