When Minutes Count, Nightingale is Ready Since 1982, Sentara Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance has speedily transported more than 16,000 gravely injured patients to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, one of the most advanced Level I Trauma Centers in Virginia. What would take 45 minutes by ground takes only 10 minutes by air. Because Nightingale is such a vital resource for the community, planning is underway to replace it with a newer, state-of-the-art helicopter in 2011.
Perseverance, Hard Work Help Him Cope
In a single day, life as Ed Forrest knew it changed, testing him in ways he could never have imagined. Forrest, 54, collapsed in the bathroom of his home and was paralyzed. His wife, Christie, called 911 and he was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Extensive rehab and surgery followed by a Sentara neurosurgeon who used a combination of bone grafts, bolts and plates to repair the damage. The prognosis wasn’t good...
