Sentara Promise Award Winners
Congratulations to the 2008 Sentara Promise Winners for their commitment to provide an extraordinary healthcare experience - every time! Since 1980, Sentara has focused on excellence in safety and customer service through Sentara Promise. In 2009, Sentara began building on that proud tradition with the Sentara Commitments. To reflect this evolution, the Sentara Promise Council and the Commitments team have collaborated to create a new award, the ACE award, which stands for ‘Always Committed to Excellence.’ The ACE award replaces the Promise award.

Debbie Ewing, RN, Main Operating Room, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, always works together with her team to provide quality health care. She is a mentor to any staff member and is a member of the Operating Room partnership council. She is always calm and has received accolades from staff, physicians and patients. She is always willing to assist in any way, even if it means staying late or returning to work after she has gone home. Her knowledge, positive attitude, excellent customer service and ability to always be a team player are tremendous assets to the Operating Room, surgeons, co-workers and her patients.

Felix Soto, Administrative Associate, Sentara Leigh Hospital, is well-liked by everyone in the Emergency Department. Coworkers who nominated him say the everyday actions of this quiet, gentle man speak louder than words. He has a great sense of humor and his coworkers insist he is Customer Service personified. Of particular note was the time Felix spent with a patient from Honduras who was alone and frightened. Felix spent four hours translating and comforting him in Spanish during his final moments of life.
