Sentara Norfolk General Hospital/ Sentara Leigh Hospital Auxiliary is looking for volunteers in the gift shops. Interested individuals may contact Linda Burgess at 388-3027 (Sentara Norfolk General Hospital) and Jay Whitehead at 261-6944 (Sentara Leigh Hospital). Longtime Sentara Norfolk General Hospital gift shop manager Brenda Greene moved to Nevada in February to be closer to her grandchildren. Please stop by and welcome the new gift shop manager – Linda Burgess, a Norfolk native who previously worked at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters’ gift shop.
Sentara Bayside Hospital/Sentara Princess Anne Auxiliary held its annual meeting on April 23 and elected and installed officers for the 2008-09 term: President - Barbara Fosina; Vice President - Roni Sharrett; Recording Secretary - Betty Popplet; Treasurer - Pat Conrad; and Corresponding Secretary - Gloria Pucillo. They held a successful In the Bag fundraiser on May 8, featuring designer bags, wallets, laptop cases, suitcases and briefcases, and are planning their first book sale for fall 2008.
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary appreciation was held April 29. One hundred auxilians received pins representing nearly 98,000 hours of service. The auxiliary’s Planning and Funding Committee approved financing requests totaling $19,200 from the managers for Deaf Talk to aid hearing impaired patients and visitors, for two pieces of equipment for the CARES Phase II patients, and support of the Patient Assistant Liaisons (PALS) and guest service programs. The auxiliary offers 12 scholarships, totaling about $24,000, to graduating high school students pursing a degree in health care. The auxiliary celebrated its hospital volunteers on May 1. The 2008 Summer Junior Volunteer Program, five two-week camps, runs from June 23 - Aug. 28.
Sentara Obici Hospital Auxiliary celebrated volunteer week in grand style. The auxiliary held its biannual banquet on May 22 at Wilroy Baptist Church in Suffolk, Va.
Sentara CarePlex Hospital Auxiliary is planning an Omega Jewelry show for June 17 – 18 at the hospital. On June 25, Books are Fun will be on a display in Port Warwick I, and on July 26 at Port Warwick II. On July 24-25, Picture Perfect, will display some distinctive art work at the hospital. Sentara CarePlex Hospital celebrated Volunteer Week, April 27-May 3 with a luncheon for 100 volunteers. Fifty-one attendees received pins for reaching hourly service milestones. Pins were given to Dorothy Pride - 10,000 hours, Ida Barnes and Frances Ford - 7,500 hours each, and Olive Dale - 7,000 hours.
The Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary gift shop offered nurses a 20 percent discount on merchandise during Nurse's Week, May 6-12 to honor their dedication to patients and family members. The auxiliary awarded more than $94,000 to the hospital and the community at the May general meeting. The fashion show at the Princess Anne Country Club was a big success. During 2007, hospital volunteers worked a total of 54,078 hours, with three of them working over 1,000 hours each. As of April 1, the auxiliary had 308 active adult volunteers. Each summer the auxiliary adds approximately 45-50 student volunteers to that number.
