State-of-the-Art Vascular Care Expands at Sentara
It took time, strategic planning, vision and teamwork to develop a state-of-the-art, outpatient rapid assessment and treatment center to benefit patients with venous and peripheral vascular disease in Hampton Roads.
As a system, please join me in congratulating the dedicated physicians,
Sentara Vascular Specialists, along with the vascular team members on the opening of the
Sentara Advanced Vascular Treatment Center at Port Warwick. The Peninsula location is the newest to open. An additional free standing vascular treatment center is located on the Southside in Virginia Beach.
For eight to 12 million Americans, peripheral vascular disease means simple daily activities like walking to the mailbox or exercising are difficult or painful. Many people assume this is an inevitable effect of aging and fail to get help. The result is that many people suffer needlessly while their condition worsens and their quality of life declines.
In this issue of
Network, you’ll meet one such patient,
86-year-old Pam Lyons, who realized that something was wrong when she experienced hip pain that prevented her from enjoying long walks.

After undergoing an aortobifemoral bypass surgery and making some lifestyle changes, the lively senior took up a more rigorous hobby — competitive ballroom dancing. In the years that followed, the minimally invasive procedures she needed to continue to improve blood flow to her legs could be handled in an outpatient setting.
With increased efforts to screen for and educate members of our community about the importance of early detection and effective treatment of vascular disease, this newest center clearly illustrates our mission of improving health every day.
