Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Auxiliary held a silent auction, luncheon and fashion show on April 2 at the Princess Anne Country Club to benefit the hospital. On May 8 – 10, the annual Ace of Hearts Tennis Tournament will be held. All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Cardiology Department at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. The auxiliary would like to extend a thank you to all of its members for their continuous support of auxiliary projects throughout the year.
Sentara CarePlex Hospital Auxiliary sponsored the Mutt and Jeff’s 5K run/walk in March, during Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. Volunteers helped direct runners during the race. The event supported the Sentara CarePlex Cancer Institute. The auxlilary continues to support the Unisured Woman for Mammogram Program, a cooperative program with staff from the Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center. The program helps ensure every woman can get a mammogram when needed.
Sentara Bayside Hospital/Sentara Princess Anne Auxiliary held the annual spring meeting on April 22. Elections for 2009-2010 officers were held. On May 7, the “In The Bag” fundraiser will be held. Stop by the Gift Shop to check out the new inventory of jewelry, summer ladies wear and gifts.
The Auxiliary to Sentara Hospitals-Norfolk, Inc. is looking for volunteers for the gift shops at Sentara Leigh Hospital and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Also, with summer approaching, Sentara Leigh Hospital and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital are looking for junior volunteers. Junior volunteers must be at least 14 years old and have completed 8th grade. Sentara CarePlex Hospital Auxiliary reports that the hospital is looking for junior volunteers. To be eligible as a junior volunteer, the person must be at least 14 years old and have completed 8th grade. For additional information about volunteering at the hospital, please call Dana Rosa at 757-934-4789.
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary reports there are currently 320 members, including 47 charter members since 1962, when the auxiliary was established. Membership is open to men and women who must be at least 17 years old. Auxiliary members contribute thousands of hours of service annually. Members attend membership meetings and participate in fund raising events such as the July 4th ice cream social, Festival of Lights, in-house vendor sales such as $6 jewelry, leather handbags and luggage sale, books and gifts sale and a health fair. The auxiliary also supports the mammogram and bone density programs for the uninsured. To date 2,200 mammograms and 258 bone density tests have been provided in our community. A Special Service Involving Stricken Travelers (ASSIST) is also available to the community. The program arranges for transportation, assistance in obtaining accommodations for family members, and other support to ease the situation for the individuals and family members. Sentara Obici Hospital Auxiliary reports that the hospital is also looking for junior volunteers for the summer program, June 25 – August 7. The program is for students aged 14 – 17 who are interested in health related careers The program provides opportunities for junior volunteers to get hands-on experience working in hospital departments. Reference letters are available upon completion of the program. Applications are available upon request in the Volunteer Office, as well as at any Suffolk High School guidance/counseling office.
