Norfolk, VA. - October 23, 2001 - The National Research Corporation (NRC) has named Sentara Norfolk General Hospital the Consumer Choice Award winner for Hampton Roads for the sixth-straight year. The award, based on a survey of more than 150,000 households nationwide, rates hospitals on the following attributes: best doctors, best nurses, image and reputation, and best overall quality.
"It is quite an honor for the residents of Hampton Roads to recognize our physicians, nurses and staff for their hard work and dedication," says Mark Gavens, president of Sentara Southside Hospitals. "We thank the members of the community for this honor and promise to continue providing the same high-quality care and service at all of Sentara's facilities."
Each year NRC, a recognized innovator and leader in health care performance measurement, honors the hospitals with the best quality and image according to the consumers in major metropolitan markets across the country. The Consumer Choice reflects the growing role consumers are having in the selection of their healthcare.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of only 122 hospitals in the nation to earn the Consumer Choice Award, joining The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Mayo Clinic, and Duke University Medical Center.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 644-bed tertiary care facility, known regionally and nationally for many of its specialized services including the Heart Pavilion, the Sentara Cancer Institute, transplant programs, microsurgery, and reconstructive surgery. The hospital is the area's only Level I Trauma Center.
