Norfolk, VA - February 4, 2003 - The medical directors of The HMO AllianceSM, a division of VHA, elect Robert A. Gormley, M.D., C.P.E., chairman of the organization's Medical Directors Council. Dr. Gormley's two-year term beginning January 2003, is effective through December 2005.
As chairman Gormley will set The HMO Alliance's agenda and chair the semi-annual medical directors' meetings. With his chairmanship also comes appointment to the organization's executive committee.
The Medical Directors Council monitors national medical policy and issues and advises the CEO and other senior managers' work groups of the association. During 2003, Gormley plans to focus the Medical Directors Council on assessing the quality and practices of providers nationwide and evaluating diagnostic tests to contain costs.
"We are certainly stronger together. The Medical Directors Council tackles broad industry issues by reviewing national trends and seeking ways to better serve our populations," says Dr. Robert Gormley, Sentara Health Management's Senior Medical Director.
Gormley joined Sentara Health Management's executive medical team in 2000 and currently serves as the organization's senior medical director. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and recently received his designation as certified physician executive from American College of Physician Executives. Additionally, he serves as diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Medical Management, and National Board of Medical Examiners.
Gormley earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his doctorate of medicine from Ohio State University Hospitals. He also completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Ohio State University College of Medicine located in Columbus, Ohio.
