Virginia Beach, VA - September 15, 2003 - A new patient care tower with 108 private rooms will literally change the face of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, and create a new standard of privacy and comfort for patients. The four-story 'West Wing' will rise over what is now the main entrance, creating a more modern appearance. Groundbreaking is scheduled on September 16, 2003 at 11am.
"The standard today, and what most patients expect and appreciate is a private room," said Sentara Vice President and Virginia Beach General Hospital Administrator Robert Graves. "We think that's something the community needs and deserves." Graves added, "This new wing is also a tangible statement about Sentara's commitment to improving health care in Virginia Beach."
When the $29M expansion is complete in late 2005, more than 90% of patient rooms at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital will be private. Graves said private rooms offer more space for medical equipment, better infection control and fewer patient transfers within the hospital. One entire floor of the new tower will be dedicated to 48 cardiac patient beds, and there will be an expanded, dedicated Sentara Heart Center on the ground floor. The project will also expand the lobby, gift shop and outpatient pharmacy.
Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled
