Virginia Beach, VA – March 22, 2004 – Solucient®, a national hospital survey group, has named Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital to its first list of 100 Top Hospitals® Performance Improvement Leaders. Only two hospitals in Virginia made the list.
According to Solucient, Sentara Virginia Beach General was among the hospitals that improved their overall performance in key areas of measurement faster than their peer hospitals around the country during a survey period from 1997 through 2001.
Solucient says Performance Improvement Leaders had lower mortality rates, fewer medical complications, shorter lengths of stay and lower expenses than other hospitals in their peer groups. Sentara Virginia Beach General is listed in the Large Community Hospitals category.
“This is a testament to the excellent day-to-day performance of our medical and administrative staff,” says Les Donahue, FACHE, Corporate Vice President and Administrator of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. “They are always striving to improve patient care and outcomes, and to run our hospital as efficiently as possible.”
Sentara Virginia Beach General is a familiar name with Solucient, having been named to Solucient’s 100 Top Hospitals® Benchmarks for Success list twice before, for overall excellence in clinical, operational and financial performance. The new Performance Improvement Leaders list indicates that even as it was already winning those awards, Sentara Virginia Beach General was improving its operations faster than most other hospitals.
“We’re never satisfied,” adds Les Donahue. “We want to be the best hospital we can be for our community in Virginia Beach. It’s nice to know our efforts put us among the most improved hospitals in the country.”
