- Sentara Healthcare announced today that Raymond G. Troiano, M.D., has been named administrator at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital
"Ray has served Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for nearly 30 years, including the last eight as vice president for medical affairs," said Rodney F. Hochman, M.D., executive vice president. "He played a key role in developing the hospitals 2004 strategic plan and the opening of the West Wing and Heart Center. He will continue to bring strong leadership to the hospital in this new role," Hochman said.
Dr. Troiano, a board certified neurologist, has been a member of the medical staff since 1977. He has initiated a number of programs at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, including the hospitalist and palliative care programs.
"I look forward to this next phase of my career, leading a nationally-ranked, 274-bed hospital with established programs in cardiac, neonatal care and trauma services, in the largest city in Virginia. I embrace the opportunity to continue serving the residents of Virginia Beach through quality patient care and innovative health delivery systems," Troiano said.
Dr. Troiano is a native of Rochester, N.Y., holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and earned his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. He recently completed the Juran Institutes Six Sigma training and was awarded Green Belt status.
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is an acute care facility which specializes in cardiology and cardiac surgery, cancer care, high-risk pregnancy, womens health, oncology, orthopedics and neurosciences, with a dedicated nursing wing for stroke treatment, total joint replacements and trauma surgery. It houses a specialized neonatal intensive care unit and Virginia Beachs only trauma center.
