"We're committed to continue fostering improved health in the greater Williamsburg community," says Dr. David R. Maizel, vice president, Sentara Medical Group. "We envision a medical complex offering patients the convenience of a variety of health services closer to their home or work," he continues.
Sentara Williamsburg Community Urgent Care is a walk-in clinic with extended hours, capable of handling outpatient procedures and minor emergencies; injuries; illness; and school and sports physicals, among other services. Staffed by board certified physicians with more than 75 years of combined experience serving hospital emergency departments, the Urgent Care has been in operation since 2002.
"We are very excited about this new project," said Shane Peng, MD, medical director for Sentara Medical Group on the Peninsula. "New Town's central location is ideal for serving the outpatient medical needs of the community."
In addition to the urgent care center, the new facility will house occupational health services; a Coumadin Clinic; expanded diagnostic and laboratory services; Sentara Medical Group administrative space, and physician practices including Williamsburg Pediatric, Adolescent & Sports Medicine, Treyburn Internal Medicine, and Williamsburg Family Practice.
"Our plans for this facility fit very nicely into New Towns vision of creating a center of business, retail, and residential development," Peng added. "Our goal is to provide the community with comprehensive outpatient medical services in a location that offers convenience and accessibility to home or work. We truly believe the Williamsburg community will continue to be enhanced by the services that this facility will bring to the area."
