Virginia Beach, Va. - June 16, 2006 - Sentara Healthcare announced today that Larry DePriest, vice president of Sentara Healthcare and administrator at Sentara Bayside Hospital, will retire at the end of the year.
"Larry has served Sentara capably since 2001, as administrator of both Sentara Leigh and Sentara Bayside hospitals," said Rodney F. Hochman, M.D., executive vice president. "He played a key role in leading Sentara Leigh Hospital to recognition as one of the nations top 100 hospitals. At Sentara Bayside, he has been a driving force behind expanding much-needed services for the Virginia Beach community, including the opening of the new cardiac catheterization lab last year," Hochman said.
DePriest has also been instrumental in recruiting outstanding healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the health of the community.
DePriest served as Sentara Leigh Hospital administrator from 2001 to 2005, and last year assumed the leadership position at Sentara Bayside Hospital. Previously, during his more than 40-year career, he served as president and CEO of Danville Regional Health System and held leadership roles at Methodist Health Systems, Memphis, Tenn., and at North Broward Hospital District, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Formerly, he was also a health services administrator in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to serving in leadership capacities at health systems, he was also past chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and has served on the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association.
Sentara will immediately begin its recruitment process to fill the vacant administrator position. It is anticipated that the position will be filled by early fall, giving the new administrator time to work with DePriest before his retirement to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Sentara Healthcare is a premier not-for-profit health care provider in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
