- Sentara Healthcare announced today that Stephen D. Porter, vice president of Sentara's Princess Anne Health Campus
, has also been selected to serve as administrator of Sentara Bayside Hospital.
Porter will replace Larry DePriest as the administrator of Sentara Bayside, when he retires at the end of the year.
Prior to being named vice president of Sentara Princess Anne on January 1, 2005, Porter served as director of cardiovascular, imaging, gastrointestinal and ambulatory services at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, since its opening in 2002. He was also responsible for planning and operations at Port Warwick Medical Arts in Oyster Point. He joined Sentara Healthcare more than nine years ago as an administrative resident and advanced to hold positions including manager of network management and contracting at Sentara Health Plans Inc., and director of emergency and ambulatory services.
"Steve's proven operational expertise and the relationship between Sentara Bayside and Sentara Princess Anne were driving factors in his selection," said Rodney F. Hochman, M.D., executive vice president. "He will continue to provide strong leadership for Sentara Healthcare in this new role," Hochman said.
A highly experienced executive, Porter received his master of health administration degree from Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1997. He holds a bachelor of business administration degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. He is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives and served on its Regents Council, Healthcare Administrators of Tidewater. He has also served as a board member of the Peninsula Emergency Medical Services, and on the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute.
