November 19 - Newport News, VA
–- The final building at Sentara Port Warwick
—the Peninsula’s only comprehensive outpatient campus—opens Monday, November 19. Located off Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, Port Warwick III houses a cancer center and endovascular suite, bringing new medical services to Peninsula residents.
“We are completing our vision of offering Peninsula residents the highest level of comprehensive outpatient care possible outside of a hospital. Our patients are thrilled with the convenient, quieter setting this campus offers—even in emergencies with our 24-hour emergency room,” says Kenneth Krakaur, President of Sentara’s Peninsula Region.
A cornerstone to the 50,000 s.f., $9.6 million medical office building is Virginia Oncology Associates’ Port Warwick Cancer Center. Comprising the entire first floor, the 22,600 s.f. cancer clinic brings together cancer diagnosis, treatment, and caring support in a single location for area residents.
Now patients coming to Sentara Port Warwick health campus for cancer care have access to specialties including medical oncology, hematology, gynecological care, and surgical oncology coupled with advanced imaging equipment for the early detection of cancer and other medical concerns.
Patients also have access to chemotherapy services, genetic counseling, and social services on site. The Sentara Cancer Network
also participates in national and local clinical trials, offering the latest innovations in cancer care right in the heart of the community.
“We understand that knowledge, access, and convenience are critical to cancer patients. By opening our community-based office at Port Warwick, we’re offering area patients the latest treatment options, patient-focused resources, and ‘peace of mind’ knowing their drive home is only minutes away,” remarks Dr. John Mattern II, oncologist and board member of Virginia Oncology Associates.
In this final stage of the campus, Peninsula patients can expect additional new services in early 2008. Nationally recognized Vascular and Transplant Specialists have committed to opening a 10,000 s.f. vascular center at Sentara Port Warwick, offering advanced minimally invasive vascular procedures not previously available in outpatient settings on the Peninsula. Patients will now benefit from drastically reduced recovery times of these minimally invasive outpatient procedures. The center will offer specialized laser treatment of varicose veins and non-invasive vascular studies.
“This expansion of outpatient vascular services to Sentara Port Warwick in Newport News demonstrates our commitment to bringing the latest and technology closer to where our patients live and work," says Marc Glickman, M.D. FACS, director of vascular services for Sentara on the Peninsula and Southside. "The facility now offers more innovative procedures from a convenient and efficient setting.”
