April 24, 2008 - Suffolk, VA - Sentara Healthcare announced that Michael Genco, M.D., has been selected as the medical director of the free-standing 24-hour Emergency Department located at
Sentara BelleHarbour, a new state-of-the art medical campus set to open June 2, 2008, on Bridge Road in Suffolk.
Prior to being named director of the BelleHarbour Emergency Department, Genco served as an emergency room physician providing care at
Sentara Princess Anne in Virginia Beach and other emergency departments in the region since 2000. He is a partner with Emergency Physicians of Tidewater, a specialty group of emergency physicians all board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
“Dr. Genco’s depth of experience and impressive credentials will enable Sentara to continue fostering improved health in Suffolk and the Western Tidewater community,” says Kurt Hofelich, vice president Sentara Healthcare. “In a medical emergency, this quick access to skilled care will make all the difference in the health of the community,” he continues.
A highly trained board-certified emergency medicine physician, Genco earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School in 1997. He served his residency at the Michigan State University Spectrum Health Program and subsequently became certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
