- As part of its ongoing initiative to provide exceptional access to emergency heart services, Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Surjya P. Das, M.D., FSCAI, FACC to its cardiac care team.
Dr. Das joins Sentara Medical Group’s Sentara Cardiology Specialists
office. He most recently served as an interventional cardiologist with Albany Associates in Cardiology in Albany, New York. Dr. Das was on the medical staffs of several Albany area hospitals, including Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany Memorial Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital, Seton Health System and Samaritan Hospital.
“Dr. Das brings a wealth of cardiac experience to the region,” said Robert Graves, administrator of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center
. “His expertise further strengthens patient access to specialized emergency cardiac services and brings us further in our mission to provide world-class treatment for heart disease to the greater Williamsburg community.”
Dr. Das earned his doctor of medicine degree from Albany Medical College and completed an internship in internal medicine with Naval Medical Center in Oakland, California, followed by a residency in internal medicine with University of California in San Francisco. He also completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
“I am very excited about coming to Williamsburg,” says Dr. Das. “My goal is to be part of a team that provides state of the art interventional care for acute myocardial infarctions while trying to safely establish a program for less emergent angioplasty.”
Das also stressed a desire to decrease the need for patients to travel out of the Williamsburg area for interventional cardiology services, while undescoring the need to work in conjunction with the larger centers with cardiac surgery capabilities to provide a full scope of care.
“Additionally, I would like to be part of the community effort to increase awareness of the prevention and management of cardiac disease,” added Das.
Sentara Medical Group’s Sentara Cardiology Specialists is located in the medical office building adjacent to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center at 500 Sentara Circle.
