Suffolk VA - October 20, 2008 – Construction is set to begin on a new campus at Sentara St. Luke’s, an outpatient health campus located on Brewers’ Neck Road near the Benns Church intersection in Isle of Wight County. Sentara St. Luke’s Phase I construction will be the new home for Sentara Obici’s outpatient services that are now located on Church Street in Smithfield.
“We recognize that residents of Isle of Wight County, Smithfield and Windsor need and deserve quality health care locally,” said Rosemary Check, administrator of
Sentara Obici Hospital. “This new site at St. Luke’s Village represents a continuation of that long-term commitment. We are pleased to expand our current service offerings at this convenient, new location and deliver the noteworthy health care services communities have come to expect from Sentara.”
First to open will be a two-story, 52,000 square-foot facility that will house the existing Smithfield Medical Center primary and specialty physician practices while allowing additional office space for more specialty physicians desiring to expand their practice to Isle of Wight County. In addition, advanced imaging services, laboratory, physical therapy and urgent care services will all be relocated and expanded to support the emerging population in the northern sector of the county.
Sentara St. Luke’s Phase I is anticipated to open in fall 2009. The balance of the 42-acre site will be held for future medical related facilities to be determined by population growth, public demand and economic conditions that support the need for additional medical services.
