May 9, 2008 – Norfolk, VA - The American College of Physicians, the academic and professional association for internal medicine physicians, has named Sentara’s Dr. Glenn Jones the 2008 Virginia Young Internist of the Year.
Dr. Jones sees patients in Norfolk at
Sentara Healthcare’s Dedicated Care Center and the
Executive Evaluation Center, located in the Wainwright Building, 229 W. Bute St., Norfolk.
The award recognizes excellence in leadership within the profession, academics, medical research, teaching and mentoring and volunteerism. Dr. Jones was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) in 2005 and sits on the Virginia ACP Governor’s Council. He chaired the 2008 Virginia ACP Annual Scientific Meeting in Williamsburg and chairs several ACP committees. He was also nominated for the Virginia ACP Young Internist of the Year in 2007.
Dr. Jones graduated from high school in England, where he won an academic scholarship to Eton, and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1991. He received an MBA in international business in 1993 from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris.
He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and completed his internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center in 2001. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2002.
Dr. Jones has served as a delegate to the Medical Society of Virginia, president of the Danville Pittsylvania Academy of Medicine and chair of medicine at Danville Regional Medical Center. He has taught medical students since 2003 as visiting assistant professor of medicine at the University of Virginia. He has been a principal investigator or sub-investigator on more than 40 pharmaceutical clinical trials involving diabetes, heart disease, inflammatory bowel diseases and emphysema.
He has been named to American’s Top Physicians every year since 2005 and was selected for
Strathmore’s Who’s Who in Internal Medicine in 2006. He is married to Trisha, and they have a new daughter Zoë and three corgi dogs. A photography enthusiast, his photographs have been displayed in numerous gallery exhibitions.
