NORFOLK, Va - September 23, 2009- Smoking three packs of cigarettes a day was ingrained in Hampton resident Tom Woods' routine for many years.
Though he had the desire to quit, Woods didn’t have the right tools to break his addictive and damaging habit.
“I don’t want to be the hacking old guy,” said Woods, 58.
Woods found the long-awaited help he needed from
Sentara’s “Get off Your Butt” smoking cessation program offered by
Sentara Community Health and Prevention. Alverine Mack, a tobacco cessation specialist with Sentara and a former smoker herself, worked with Woods to help him break the habit. He has been smoke free for more than four years.
The “Get off your Butt” program is just one example of how Sentara is committed to the Hampton Roads community. In addition to programs within Sentara, Sentara also partners with numerous community agencies to provide support.
