'Path to Survivorship' Series Serves Cancer Patients, Families

Nine sessions throughout the region address emotional, practical issues

August, 25, 2009 - NORFOLK, VA - The Sentara Cancer Network will conduct a second series of nine "Path to Survivorship" programs beginning in August.

The facilitated discussions focus on a variety of sometimes difficult subjects for cancer patients and their families, including financial and employment issues, intimacy, family dynamics, nutrition and stress.

All sessions are free. Times are 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Refreshments are provided.
Registration is required for each session by calling 1-800-SENTARA.


Tuesday, August 25, 2009 – Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Topic: Managing anxiety and depression.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 – Sentara Obici Hospital – Topic: Cancer is a family affair.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 – Sentara Leigh Hospital – Topic: Financial and employment issues.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 – Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton – Topic: Stress management; learning to relax and experience the present moment.

Tuesday, December 8, 2009 – Virginia Oncology Associates at Lake Wright, Norfolk – Topic: Nutrition, Now What?

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 – Sentara Leigh Hospital – Topic: Long term effects from treatment.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 – Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Topic: Let’s get personal; sexual intimacy after cancer.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 – Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital – Topic: What’s new in cancer treatment and trends?

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 – Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center – Topic:
The Power of your thoughts; how you think affects how you feel.

News Media: Cancer survivors from the southside and the Peninsula who participated in the previous series are available for interviews, should you choose to make this program into a story.
