The ExploreHealth with Sentara Center, a medically supervised rehabilitation and fitness program operated by Sentara Healthcare
, is entering a new partnership with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads
on November 1st.
Services for about 400 ExploreHealth with Sentara members will now be offered at the YMCA Family Centers at Hilltop and Mount Trashmore. The ExploreHealth with Sentara Center at Great Neck and First Colonial Roads in Virginia Beach will be closed.
“This is a great programming opportunity for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads,” says Billy George, chief operating officer for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads. “We're delighted to welcome the current members of ExploreHealth with Sentara and to grow the program at our facilities.”
The YMCA and Sentara agreed that ExploreHealth with Sentara is a good fit for the YMCA. The program reached its capacity at its existing location and Sentara began looking for a partner with the facilities and staff to cost-effectively expand the program.
“This is going to be a great partnership with the YMCA,” says Kurt Hofelich, vice president of ambulatory and rehabilitation services for Sentara Healthcare. “We can think of no organization better equipped to join Sentara in taking ExploreHealth to the next level.” Sentara has operated its medically supervised fitness program for nearly 20 years.
Sentara will continue to provide clinical oversight and expertise in the development and management of the program.
Physicians refer patients to ExploreHealth with Sentara for medically supervised exercise programs to help them recover from stroke, surgery or other medical issues. It is a highly-personalized program focused on a safe environment for obtaining optimum well-being through supervised exercise and rehabilitation.
“We can create the environment these patients need to be their best,” says George. “We're pleased to partner with Sentara Healthcare on this much-needed program.”
