System performance and adoption of technology help Sentara remain top-ranked system in Virginia NORFOLK, Virginia - Feb. 12, 2009 - Modern Healthcare
recently published its annual assessment of the 100 most highly integrated healthcare networks (IHNs). SDI’s report (formerly known as Verispan’s IHN Top 100), is regarded as the nation’s premier rating system by evaluating IHNs on their performance and degree of integration.
Sentara ranked 4th among the 570 non-specialty, local and regional networks in the United States and has remained in the top 10 ranks since the list began publishing in 1997.
“We are transforming care with a commitment to combine the best clinical practices with the latest medical technology,” says David Bernd, chief executive officer for Sentara Healthcare. “Through our Sentara eCare®
initiative, we are bringing physicians and caregivers of every discipline together in a way that makes our care more collaborative and efficient.”
This effective use of technology also helps Sentara bring together a mix of facilities, practitioners and business functions. Sentara is an integrated system that provides a wide range of health care services: primary, specialty, urgent and emergency care; inpatient and outpatient hospitalization; long term care; home care and hospice; health plans, and other services that work together to provide patients with a coordinated and convenient continuum of care.
Hospital implementation of Sentara eCare
began in 2008. With three of seven hospitals operating on the new technology platform, Sentara is already seeing dramatic results.
“Our mission sums up nicely the focus of our efforts: to improve health every day,” adds Bernd. “While we are proud of our accomplishments to date, we realize this journey requires constant attention and vigilance.”
