Endurance Athletes of All Ages Welcome
Event: April 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
It’s no secret that nearly every sport relies on elements of power and strength—two hallmarks of cross training. But the added benefits of cross training to overall performance can translate into improved speed, agility and power, in addition to decreasing the chance of overuse injuries and the positive influence on motivation.
Endurance athletes like marathon runners, triathletes, swimmers, and bikers are welcomed to join a free educational event hosted by Velocity Sports Performance and Sentara Sports Medicine in Chesapeake April 15 at 6:30 p.m. Local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joel Stewart will detail injury avoidance strategies for specialized endurance athletes. Educational breakouts will cover nutrition, foot screenings and shoe recommendations, as well as a demonstration of a virtual bike trainer called CompuTrainer, programmed with more than 50 national and international courses to assess bikers’ capability and improve their training—all without getting on a plane. Bikers can understand the specifics of their riding style like power output (wattage), heart rate, cadence, and pedaling efficiency. Sentara physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and nutritionist will be available to answer any questions.
