Virginia Beach VA - October 6, 2009 – Dr. Karen Thomas has joined Sentara Neurology Specialists, a specialty practice of Sentara Medical Group. Sentara Neurology Specialists is a group of leading neurologists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system—the brain, the spinal cord, and the nerves. Dr. Thomas is the medical director of Sentara Movement Disorders Program located at 1950 Glenn Mitchell Drive, Suite 200, in Virginia Beach.
Dr. Thomas earned her medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, in 1996. She subsequently completed her residency in neurology at University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, followed by a fellowship in movement disorders as an Evelyn Kossack Fellow in Movement Disorders at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Thomas was the medical director of Ohio State University’s Madden Center for Parkinson’s Disease prior to joining Sentara Medical Group.
Dr. Thomas has a special interest in Parkinson’s Disease and has conducted extensive research into its diagnosis and treatment modalities. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry andd Neurology and a member of the American Academy of Neurology.
