Orthopaedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex Opens July 5 

The Orthopaedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex, a nearly 55,000 s.f., two-story addition provides patients access to the full complement of orthopedic services from pre-habilitation and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services.

Specialized surgical orthopedic care is provided through board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic physicians known for sub-specialization with expertise in total joint replacement, hand and upper extremity care, spine surgery, shoulder surgery, sports medicine, orthopedic trauma care, and orthopedic research. 

The new hospital is staffed by a dedicated orthopedic team of doctors, nurses, operating room staff, anesthesiologists, and clinicians caring exclusively for orthopedic patients.

Special design features add convenience for orthopedic patients and their families. Metered hallways help patients mark progress following surgery, nourishment areas and all private rooms with family sleep areas promote family involvement, and special orthopedic hospital beds provide added safety and comfort for patients.

“Smart” operating rooms are wired for future technology and are about 25 percent larger to accommodate advanced operating equipment devoted to orthopedic patients. Sentara eCare® offers the advantages of one, real-time electronic medical record that assembles patient medical information and improves patient safety.

Consolidating orthopedic services in the Orthopaedic Hospital at Sentara CarePlex allows for enhancements to other hospital programs and creates bed capacity within the main hospital. Patients may be admitted faster, especially those entering the main hospital through the emergency department, which is one of the state’s busiest.
