Suffolk, Virginia (June 1, 2010) - Sentara Healthcare officials today announced the selection of Kurt Hofelich as vice president and administrator of Sentara Obici Hospital. Hofelich has been with Sentara since 1992 and has held a number of posts in the organization. For the past three and a half years, Hofelich has served as vice president/division executive of Sentara Ambulatory Operations and Rehabilitation. In this role, he was instrumental in the development and launch of the Sentara BelleHarbour free-standing emergency and ambulatory center, as well as Sentara St. Luke’s, both in Western Tidewater, and was responsible for operations at Sentara Greenbrier HealthPlex.
Hofelich spearheaded the Advanced Imaging and Rehabilitation services at Sentara Princess Anne and implemented two inpatient rehab unit expansions at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

From 2003-2006, Hofelich served as vice president, Sentara Advanced Imaging and Rehabilitation. He was responsible for strategic planning, marketing, start-up implementation and operations of a free-standing outpatient imaging center strategy including six advanced diagnostic centers, expansion to 16 ambulatory rehab sites, 36 bed inpatient acute rehab unit, 7 skilled nursing rehabilitation facilities, wound therapy and hyperbaric medicine center and a medically directed fitness center.
Prior to assuming this position, Hofelich served as director of the Sentara Rehab Network from 1998-2003, as director of ambulatory diagnostics and rehab for Sentara Hospitals from 1995-1998, and as director of rehabilitation services at Sentara Leigh Hospital from 1994-1995. Kurt began his career at Sentara as a physical therapist at Sentara Leigh Hospital where he worked from 1992-94.
He holds a Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Arcadia University in Philadelphia, and a Bachelor of Science in Education and Exercise Physiology degree from The Ohio State University.
Hofelich assumes the new role at Sentara Obici Hospital on July 5.
