Norfolk, VA (April 13, 2010) - On Sunday, March 21, 2010, The Virginian-Pilot featured an article entitled, “Hospitals Taking More Steps to Prevent Infections.” The article highlights area hospital infection rates and features the steps Sentara has taken to reduce infections in patients from central lines.

In Hampton Roads, Sentara hospitals have the lowest reported rates, which are better than state averages. Congratulations to the Intensive Care units at Sentara Bayside Hospital and Sentara Leigh Hospital for having no central line related infections in 2009.
Also, Sentara Bayside Hospital was recognized in the March 2010 issue of Consumer Reports. The hospital’s last central line-associated bloodstream infection was in April 2008.
