Smithfield, VA – January 2010 – Isle of Wight’s new comprehensive healthcare campus—Sentara St. Luke’s—is set to open on Monday, January 18th at 8 a.m. at its new location on Brewers Neck Blvd. (Route 258) near Route 10. This new, modern healthcare campus will re-introduce the services of Smithfield Medical Center and Sentara Outpatient Services, formerly located on Church Street, to the community. The 52,000 square foot patient-friendly medical office building design represents Phase 1 of the development.
This move will bring Sentara's quality services to one of the fastest growing areas of Hampton Roads—easily accessible for residents of Isle of Wight County, Smithfield, Surry County and western Tidewater communities—into one building and location.
“Expanding the access to quality care and service is a top priority at Sentara St. Luke’s,” according to Robert Firestone, Director of Ambulatory Services with Sentara Healthcare, who has led the move to the new healthcare campus. “Residents of the Isle of Wight, Smithfield and Surry communities have asked for expanded access to urgent care services and convenient, comprehensive services in one location. It is now available with the opening of Sentara St. Luke’s.”

Sentara Urgent Care, with Drs. Bart LoPresti and LuAnne Lewis at the helm, will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sentara’s Urgent Care is closed on Sundays at the Brewers Neck location.
The doctors at Smithfield Medical Center have an expanded, state-of-the-art center to offer diagnostics and expert medical care to people residing in western Tidewater. They also have a new name—Sentara Family Medicine Physicians. Drs. Belvin, Lundie, Mathew-Lewis and Weitzman will work closely with their staff and multiple physician specialists, who will also be on-site at the new Sentara St. Luke’s location in the coming weeks, to provide friendly, quality healthcare for you and your family.
The Advanced Imaging Center will offer a sophisticated line of imaging equipment such as mobile CT, mobile MRI, full-field digital mammography, ultrasound and X-ray. Diagnostic bone densitometry testing has been added to provide women with a more comprehensive site for all their healthcare needs. A team of board-certified radiologists utilizes high-speed transfer of images across the internet, combined with speech recognition technology, to convey results instantly for quicker diagnosis and treatment.
Additionally, a full laboratory offers patients outpatient testing that is customer friendly and easily accessible.
Smithfield Therapy Center (formerly Smithfield Physical Therapy) offers physical, occupational and speech therapies with specially trained and certified therapists in hand
and lymphederma therapies Areas of expertise include orthopedic and sports specialists, neurological and spinal rehabilitation.
The initial services encompass core outpatient services close to home—physician offices, urgent care, physical therapy, advanced imaging and medical specialists. A new chapter for Sentara’s commitment to Isle of Wight County is set to unfold. With the opening our newest healthcare campus, Sentara St. Luke’s will continue to add providers, services and capabilities in the coming months and years.
