Martha Jefferson Becomes 10th Hospital in Sentara System

Charlottesville, VA. (June 1, 2011) - Martha Jefferson Hospital is excited to announce its merger with Sentara Healthcare is complete, effective June 1. This is a milestone that will help enable the hospital to continue to provide quality healthcare to the community for years to come.

In September of 2010, Martha Jefferson signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Sentara Healthcare. Over the past several months the two organizations have undergone a due diligence process and regulatory review.

Martha Jefferson is now the 10th hospital in the Sentara Healthcare not-for-profit integrated health system based in Norfolk, Virginia.

“Martha Jefferson and Sentara have the same missions and strive to improve the health of the communities they serve,” said Jim Haden, Martha Jefferson Hospital President. “By working together we will both be able to benefit and continue to provide excellent clinical outcomes and the Caring Tradition that our patients have come to value.”

Moving forward, planning and integration efforts will help ensure a smooth transition between the two organizations.

“We are excited to welcome Martha Jefferson Hospital staff and physicians to the Sentara family,” says Sentara CEO David L. Bernd. “Martha Jefferson and Sentara share a common commitment to quality, customer service and community service. Together we will continue providing personalized health care to residents of Charlottesville and Central Virginia,” he continues.
