Norfolk, VA – Bruce Robertson, president of Sentara Life Care, is chair-elect of the National PACE association.
PACE is the federally-supported Program of all-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. It provides day services, transportation and healthcare for seniors who qualify for nursing home care under Medicaid, but who live at home with their families. PACE programs accept a set monthly reimbursement from Medicaid for each participant and then provide all services needed, including on-site physicians and nurses, hospitalization and rehabilitation, if required.
“PACE is one of the best values available for seniors and for taxpayers,” says Bruce Robertson. “It helps maintain family ties and quality of life for seniors.”
PACE allows working couples and single caregivers to leave the house each day knowing their senior loved ones will be safe at PACE during working hours and delivered safely home in the evening.
PACE programs growing nationwide
The National PACE Association consists of 86 programs in 29 states, serving more than 22,000 seniors in programs as small as 22 participants in York, Pennsylvania to 2,600 in The Bronx in New York.
Sentara PACE sites are on Newtown Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Portsmouth Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Newtown Road site was the first PACE program in Virginia in 1996. In 2007, Sentara Life Care became the first program in the state to achieve ‘full’ PACE participation from both Medicaid and Medicare.
Bruce Robertson will serve three years in NPA leadership as chair-elect in 2012, chairperson in 2013 and immediate past chair in 2014.
