Sentara eCare® Expands to Local Community Physician Office 

Princess Anne Surgery has implemented EMR system, extending patient benefits of improved access and greater convenience

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (May 2011)- The Sentara eCare® Health Network marks another milestone this week with its expansion into select community physician practices. This means the same electronic health record benefits of improved communication, patient convenience and accurate, up-to-date medical information across all settings of care are available to a broader range of patients.

Dr. Rick Moscoso, a general surgeon with Princess Anne Surgery, has implemented Sentara eCare® and Sentara MyChart electronic health record platforms.

Sentara eCare® and Sentara MyChart will function the same in community-based practices as it does in Sentara Medical Group practices, bringing improved patient access and the benefits of a more comprehensive EMR containing complete clinical information.

Sentara eCare® patients in every setting have seen demonstrated benefits and this expansion into community physician offices is the next step in strengthening the value of the network. This gives patients greater choice and improved access to clinical best practices with seamless care between inpatient and outpatient settings across the entire Hampton Roads region.

In 2010, Sentara eCare® helped area hospitals reduce length of stay, prevent more than 100,000 potential medication errors, and allowed for improved communication between hospital and physician offices when patients required emergency care or hospitalization.

To date, there are more than 57,000 area patients signed up and using Sentara MyChart. Patients have reported improved physician communication and much greater convenience when scheduling appointments, ordering refills and accessing test results.

In March, Sentara introduced the free Sentara MyChart iPhone app, bringing many of the Sentara MyChart conveniences to iPhone or iPad users. So far more than 1,200 patients have downloaded the app and logged onto Sentara MyChart through the mobile application.
