Norfolk, VA (June 2012) – Andrew N. Githaiga, MD, FCCP, has joined Sentara Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Specialists in Norfolk.
Dr. Githaiga earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences, in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1997. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Shadyside Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Githaiga is trained to diagnose and treat illnesses and disorders of the respiratory system including emphysema, asthma, pneumonia, malignancy, and pleural effusion. His specialty also extends to sleep medicine, which includes the treatment and management of sleep apnea, hypersomnia, insomnia, nocturnal epilepsy and circadian rhythm disorders. A published author, Dr. Githaiga has participated in medical conferences across the US and Canada and conducted research on lung transplant recipients. He is committed to providing superior care for the most complex respiratory disorders in non-critical or critical situations.
Dr. Githaiga is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. In his leisure time, Dr. Githaiga enjoys martial arts, swimming, jogging, photography and traveling.
