Virginia Beach (September 2012) – Mary A. Houston, PA-C, has joined Sentara Walk-In Primary Care in Virginia Beach, VA.
Ms. Houston earned her Master of Health Sciences degree from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program in Durham, NC, in 2009 where she was inducted into the Pi Alpha Honor Society. She received her Master of Public Health degree in 2004 after receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, at Florida International University.
As a physician assistant, Ms. Houston is trained to examine patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and X-rays, diagnose and treat medical conditions, and instruct and counsel patients. Her experience includes chronic disease management for patients in primary care and urgent care settings, as well as case management for mental health, substance and alcohol abuse programs. Additionally, Ms. Houston has served on several health committees and participated in many projects promoting public health awareness in the Latino community. Fluent in Spanish, she has also volunteered for medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Guatemala.
Ms. Houston is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is a member of many professional organizations including the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants.
