Sentara Sports Medicine to Provide On-site Sports and Medical Care for the 1,500 Athletes at Football University’s TOP GUN in Williamsburg

Williamsburg, Va. & Wharton, NJ (July 9, 2012)  All American Games, a New Jersey-based sports marketing and management company, has again selected Sentara Sports Medicine as the official sports medicine provider of its Football University (FBU) TOP GUN national all-star camp taking place July 19-25 at the Warhill Sports Complex  in Williamsburg, Va.

Scott Allyn, certified athletic trainer with Sentara Sports Medicine, is leading the team of trainers at Top Gun in Williamsburg.

As the nation’s largest gathering of youth and prep football talent, 1,500 top athletes have been invited to compete at TOP GUN and train with FBU’s former NFL players and coaches. All American Games (AAG) owns and operates many of the nation’s most elite youth sports properties including the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on NBC and FBU.

Virginia-based Sentara Sports Medicine, a part of Sentara Healthcare, serves athletes of all ages in southeastern Virginia.
The James City County EMS will also work in conjunction with Sentara.

Sentara first joined AAG at last July’s TOP GUN where, despite soaring temperatures of over 100 degrees with humidity hovering at 90 percent, the Sentara staff helped ensure the safety of the athletes and spectators.

Camp officials say they will again be adequately staffed for heat-related issues and other sports-related injuries with approximately 15 Sentara professionals on-site each day, consisting of
physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, physicians and other experts.

Sentara will also be providing medical information and guidelines leading up to and during the event across AAG’s digital and social properties, as well as directly to campers, parents and spectators on-site.

“Our No. 1 priority is the health and safety of our athletes, and we are proud and confident to have Sentara on our team during TOP GUN,” said Rich McGuinness, president of All American Games, parent company of Football University. “Sentara’s qualified staff allows us to prevent injuries and issues by properly preparing our athletes with everything from stretching to adequate hydration. If any medical and health-related issues do arise at our camp, the Sentara team is there to quickly respond with the appropriate medical care. These health professionals allow our team to focus on another priority: teaching the most superior and professional techniques to our athletes.”

“We work with students on sports fields across Virginia helping young athletics avoid injuries and stay in the game. We share Football University’s goal of helping athletes achieve maximum athletic performance while putting their health and safety first,” says Alan Wilson, Director of Sentara Sports Medicine. “Our Sports Medicine Team includes the area’s most qualified professionals, and we are honored to be selected as the official sports medicine provider for this elite camp.”
