Norfolk, VA (April 2013) – Maia Gakhokidze, MD, has joined Sentara Hospital Medicine Physicians in Norfolk, VA.
Dr. Gakhokidze earned her medical degree from Aieti Medical School in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, in 1997 and received her Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification in 1998. She completed her internal medicine internship and residency in 2004 at Huron Hospital Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS) in Cleveland, OH, where she also received the Outstanding Resident award by the Huron Hospital medical staff.
As a hospitalist, Dr. Gakhokidze focuses on the care of patients in the hospital. Trained in internal medicine and experienced in delivering care in hospital settings, she works with all other specialists involved with the patient to ensure continuity of quality care. She may also collaborate with primary care physicians to ensure quality care upon the patient's discharge from the hospital and beyond.
Dr. Gakhokidze is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and she is a member of the American College of Physicians. Her fluency in Georgian, Russian and English is an advantage for those patients who live in our diverse community and require a physician who can communicate with them easily in their own native language.
