Dr Matthew Angelelli joins behavioral health in Virginia BeachVIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (December 2013)Matthew S. Angelelli, MD, joins Sentara Behavioral Health Specialists in Virginia Beach.

We continue to be reminded how critical the need for improved access to behavioral health services is across our country. That need is why we are happy to announce the arrival of Dr. Matthew Angelelli to our Sentara Behavioral Health Specialists. In addition to providing outpatient care through this new practice located in the 1080 building next to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, he will also be Medical Director of the Sentara Behavioral Health Services inpatient center at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital (opened in December 2013).

Dr. Angelelli has been a practicing, board-certified psychiatrist since 2002. He earned an undergraduate degree in engineering at the University of Virginia, and then his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Angelelli has a special interest in treating depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Dr. Angelelli has spent over a decade working in a variety of psychiatry settings, including community outreach programs, outpatient clinics and hospitals. He served as medical director of Behavioral Health at Sentara Obici Hospital and, as noted, is now medical director at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital’s Behavioral Health Center. He is an associate clinical professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry and is a clerkship site supervisor for third-year medical students.

Dr Angelelli is married with children. They can often be seen walking down the boardwalk at the beach.
